Volunteers Monthly Meeting
The day started on a positive note, we dived more into the polish culture with a matching game. At the food station, I knew some of the dishes but not all and definitely not the names! Have you ever tried to say “żurek”?! I mean… But I am on the hunt to try as much as I can specially rosol, herring and sernik. Grandma’s sernik.
Next, we explored famous Polish cities, where I was pleasantly surprised to find I knew nearly all of them. Which made me want to visit more places.
We had a look into the most famous polish figures and let me tell you, I was so surprised to learn that Marie Curie was Polish and her full name is Maria Skłodowska-Curie!
Last but not least, we immersed into the Easter spirit with hand craft activities. I enjoyed the making of Easter decorations so much with the colors and the hope of an upcoming spring soon, I made a Mazurek cookie with caramel and nuts and it was so delicious, I have to say my least favorite was coloring the eggs because blowing into the egg to get the content out is a hard no for me.
The cherry on top was the kahoot about polish Easter traditions. I didn’t win of course but who cares, it was so fun and I am really excited for the Easter specially the wet Monday.
In conclusion, it was an exceptional start to the week, and I’m deeply grateful for everyone’s efforts in making it a memorable day. I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks for the emotional support I received; your kindness made a world of difference to me.
